I have several legal license keys for Office:mac 2008. I want to do a quick audit of the two machines I've installed office on and verify which license keys are being used where. But I don't see the license key anywhere on the about dialog (or elsewhere).
There is no command as such, at least not in Mac OS X. Unlike in Windows, there is no central registry in Mac OS X where the OS keeps all serial numbers and product keys. Office 2011, I believe, keeps the product key in:
To move / re-install your licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on a different computer / OSX installation, and re-authorize it without the license / serial / key available, copy the following from the old machine to the corresponding (same) spot on the new computer.
Note NOV2020: If you just copy/paste the last file "/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist" as instructed above, it should work as well. For transparency, this was tested on an old mbp with El Capitan and incoming connections blocked with Firewall (unsure if Firewall would affect outcome).
Microsoft Office, or simply Office, is a discontinued family of client software, server software, and services developed by Microsoft. It was first announced by Bill Gates on August 1, 1988, at COMDEX in Las Vegas. Initially a marketing term for an office suite (bundled set of productivity applications), the first version of Office contained Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Over the years, Office applications have grown substantially closer with shared features such as a common spell checker, Object Linking and Embedding data integration and Visual Basic for Applications scripting language. Microsoft also positions Office as a development platform for line-of-business software under the Office Business Applications brand.
Office on the web lacks a number of the advanced features present in the full desktop versions of Office, including lacking the programs Access and Publisher entirely. However, users are able to select the command "Open in Desktop App" that brings up the document in the desktop version of Office on their computer or device to utilize the advanced features there.[27][28]
Microsoft Office 4.0 was released containing Word 6.0, Excel 4.0a, PowerPoint 3.0 and Mail in 1993.[128] Word's version number jumped from 2.0 to 6.0 so that it would have the same version number as the MS-DOS and Macintosh versions (Excel and PowerPoint were already numbered the same as the Macintosh versions).
On May 16, 2011, new images of Office 15 were revealed, showing Excel with a tool for filtering data in a timeline, the ability to convert Roman numerals to Arabic numerals, and the integration of advanced trigonometric functions. In Word, the capability of inserting video and audio online as well as the broadcasting of documents on the Web were implemented.[145] Microsoft has promised support for Office Open XML Strict starting with version 15, a format Microsoft has submitted to the ISO for interoperability with other office suites, and to aid adoption in the public sector.[146] This version can read and write ODF 1.2 (Windows only).[147]
Prior to packaging its various office-type Mac OS software applications into Office, Microsoft released Mac versions of Word 1.0 in 1984, the first year of the Macintosh computer; Excel 1.0 in 1985; and PowerPoint 1.0 in 1987.[161] Microsoft does not include its Access database application in Office for Mac.
Microsoft Office 4.2 for Mac was released in 1994. (Version 4.0 was skipped to synchronize version numbers with Office for Windows) Version 4.2 included Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, PowerPoint 4.0 and Mail 3.2.[169] It was the first Office suite for Power Macintosh.[161] Its user interface was identical to Office 4.2 for Windows[170] leading many customers to comment that it wasn't Mac-like enough.[162] The final release for Mac 68K was Office 4.2.1, which updated Word to version 6.0.1, somewhat improving performance.
In June 2007, Microsoft announced a new version of the office suite, Office Mobile 2007. It became available as "Office Mobile 6.1" on September 26, 2007, as a free upgrade download to current Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 users. However, "Office Mobile 6.1 Upgrade" is not compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices running builds earlier than 14847. It is a pre-installed feature in subsequent releases of Windows Mobile 6 devices.[193] Office Mobile 6.1 is compatible with the Office Open XML specification like its desktop counterpart.[193]
A Microsoft office product key is a 25-character code used to activate Windows and helps verify that Windows hasn't been used on more PCs than the Microsoft Software License Terms allow.

Step 2. View Applications Registry Keys on the right panel. EaseUS Key Finder will show all keys of installed software. Copy the targeted serial numbers. Also, you can click "Print" or "Save".
Both software is worth using, but in terms of supported versions and data security, EaseUS Key Finder is better. Some malware will steal your product key through ProduKey. Whenever you want to view the Office product key or back up Office serial numbers from any disaster, you can try it.
You can quickly retrieve any Macs serial number via the command line by using the ioreg or system_profiler command and grep for the serial string. Getting the serial number from the command line like this can be helpful for troubleshooting, Single User Mode, remote management with SSH, or for many other reasons, though most users should opt to find the Macs serial number this way from the Apple menu or from System Profiler, the Terminal app method is valid for advanced users and for many other reasons.
To try this yourself and get the serial number on any Mac OS machine, enter the appropriate command string below at the Terminal, depending on the version of Mac OS X in use on the Mac. Be sure the command is on a single line, as usual with command line syntax.
Every Mac device has a serial number that tells its unique story. Mac serial numbers can show information such as purchase, manufacturing, or configuration details. However, they can also be a security risk when left unprotected.
Serial numbers are printed or engraved on the underside of your iMac, MacBook, or Mac Mini. This method is the fastest method to check your serial number without having to open or log into your device. Your Mac serial number is engraved or printed near the regulatory markings that include the FCC numbers and assembly details.
If you can start up your Mac, click the Apple icon > About This Mac to quickly open your Mac overview. Your Mac serial number will appear on the last line below Graphics.
Alternatively, you may check your serial number alongside information such as your processor, number of cores, and hardware UUID. Hold down the Option key while clicking the Apple icon > System Information.
For those familiar with the Terminal, this is also a quick way to access your Mac serial number. To find your serial number using this method, open Terminal from the Applications folder or typing Terminal in Spotlight.
Should you not have access to your physical device, the serial number is also visible through the Apple ID website. Log in to your Apple ID account, then scroll to the Devices section.
Mac devices with a history of repair by authorized service centers should have serial numbers included with the documentation. The Genius Bar automatically sends these details to the email associated with your Apple account.
Serial numbers are important because they contain details that are relevant for warranty, repair, and replacement. With multiple Mac models available in the market, a serial number helps repair centers find the relevant parts necessary to fix your Mac.
Additionally, serial numbers help verify your Apple warranty coverage. Serial numbers are required for assessment and payment purposes when scheduling a repair on the Apple website. Warranty coverage is also essential if you plan to buy or sell a second-hand Mac.
In 2021, Apple moved towards randomized serial numbers. Serial numbers for all new Mac devices are now random strings of 8-14 alphanumeric characters. While the official reason for doing so remains undisclosed, it is suspected Apple has done that to help resolve issues with registration and security. 2ff7e9595c
